We are thrilled to announce that this weekend, we’ll return to Crossroads Music in Arden, NC to complete our 2nd album.  So far, things have been going extremely smoothly with the recording process, and the new album looks to be very promising.  We are excited to get it finished, and begin final preparations for the release.  Look for album no. 2 in the fall of 2015!

UT scheduled to appear at MerleFest

I distinctly remember my first MerleFest.  Being raised the son of a bluegrass fan, we frequented areas where you could find traditional bluegrass music.  I was only six years old, but my the first surviving memory of a live performance was Tony Rice, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Mark O’Connor, Jerry Douglas, and Mark Schatz playing at MerleFest in 1991.  Clips of that set can be found on YouTube today; take a look and you’ll see why I can still remember it clearly almost a quarter of a century later.  Years later, in the year 2000, I watched budding artists Nickel Creek play the Creekside Stage, and was in awe of the sheet talent that this festival brings year after year. Now, in 2015, our band has the opportunity to be a part of this awesome festival.  When Unspoken Tradition was founded in 2008, I never imagined that in 6 short years we’d be traveling to MerleFest as artists.  Don’t get me wrong, we’re still a long way from the main stage, but just to be there is more exciting than I have words for.  I can’t wait to take this in through a new lens, that of the performer; and it has felt great to see the outpouring of congratulations from fans, friends, and family who also realize that this is a great opportunity for us. If you’ve never been, Merlefest has grown to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest bluegrass, folk, and Americana music festivals in the United States.  It’s a drug and alcohol free environment that serves as a great place to expose young people to great music; and even though it’s gotten remarkably large since it’s conception, the artists are still accessible by their biggest fans.  Tickets can be purchased at...
